UTICA, Ind. — President Donald Trump has officially declared a major disaster in 23 counties in Indiana.
The declaration now provides federal disaster assistance to families affected by flooding, tornados, straight-line winds and severe storms between March 30 and April 9.
Indiana Comptroller Elise Nieshalla visited Utica, In. on Thursday to tour the town’s recovery efforts. She also pledged her office will properly manage the money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
“We’ve got the Controller down here, FEMA finally declared things are bad, and we just need to get these people help,” said Steve Long, Utica town council president, who hosted the politicians that made the trip from Indianapolis to Clark County.
“The funds that you all receive, we’ll be responsible for,” Nieshalla said. “Making sure that all of the federal funds that come to you are properly accounted for. They will be.”
