Elise Nieshalla, the state’s comptroller, came to the stage with a lot of positive energy while she was sporting a blue hat with white lettering that read “Make America like Indiana.”
Indiana is in a great financial position and has one of the lowest debts per capita in the nation. The Hoosier state has healthy cash reserves, a balanced budget, and a triple AAA credit rating.
According to Nieshella, she remembers when offices were in other people’s hands and the budget was run into the ground, had cash flow problems and a great amount of debt. Thanks to the governors, legislatures, and the hard work of those in office, they have turned Indiana around and it is a mark of financial stability. On the other hand, our federal government has accumulated 37 trillion dollars of debt and the interest payment alone is greater than the entire military budget. That is why she says what we need to do is make America like Indiana.
