TRIBUNE STAR: Comptroller: 'We've got to dig in...do hard work' Elise Nieshalla says Indiana is handling fiscal challenges well

Despite a grim state revenue forecast in April, the Legislature and governor took necessary measures in response and the state is in a “strong, stable financial position,” said Elise Nieshalla, state comptroller, in an interview this week.
She met with the Tribune-Star on Wednesday to discuss Indiana’s financial position at the close of the fiscal year.
“Even when we received the revenue forecast to anticipate $2.4 billion less [for the current two-year budget cycle], for Indiana that doesn’t put us in a state of emergency,” she said.
“It just means we’ve got to dig in and do the hard work to make sure we pass a balanced budget.”
